A Simple Song

It was a Thursday and James and his friend Elsie were walking to the fair. The sun wasn't shining, but it was warm and they felt happy to be outside in their neighbourhood.

“Have you heard that song?” James asked Elsie as they walked over the bridge.

“Which song?” Elsie replied.

“You know, the one that goes....Da, mmmm, da, mmmmm, oooooooo, pa pa pa.” James sang the tune in the best voice he could.

“Does it have any words?”

“No, it's just a simple song.” said James. “No words, just music and rhythms.”

They rounded the corner and began to see the fair ahead of them through the tall trees and hedgerows of the field.

“Sing it again.” Elsie said as she jumped over a drain.

“Da, mmmm, da, mmmmm, oooooooo, pa pa pa.” sang James.

“I don't think so," said Elsie "...but I like it.”

As James and Elsie arrived at the fair they smiled and walked towards the bumper cars which both of them had been looking forward to. It was going to be a great day!
